Scott Kliewer grew up less than two hours from Newton in Topeka, the capital city of Kansas. He was blessed to have grown up in a Christian home and realized his need of salvation as a young boy. Church was always a very important part of his childhood, with his parents being very involved in local church ministry.

Meridian Baptist Church sprang from a Bible study that began in a local home on January 10, 1964. After being in several rented facilities, they built and occupied their first building on June 18, 1967, at the present location at 1130 W. Broadway. Two additions have been completed since then; the auditorium in 1978 and the Family Center in 1994. The present pastor, Scott Kliewer, began service as the Associate Pastor in September 1983 and assumed the Senior Pastoral role in May 2008.

Doctrinal Statement

We believe in the inspiration of the Bible, meaning that God has given us the very words of Scripture; the creation of man by the direct act of God; man’s lost condition before God as a result of his sinful nature and choice of sin; the incarnation and virgin birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; the substitutionary sacrifice of Christ by the shedding of His blood for man’s sin; the literal death and resurrection of our Lord; the gift of eternal life by the grace of God and not by the works of man; the literal and Second Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ to receive His own, as well as set up His Kingdom.

Basic Baptist Beliefs

We are "Baptist" by conviction for the following reasons:

B - Biblical Authority -
We believe in the verbal, plenary inspiration of the Scriptures, holding them up as the sole authority for our faith and practice, and the literal interpretation of such. This FUNDAMENTAL belief necessitates personal separation from “the world” as well as ecclesiastical (church) separation from those who do not adhere to the Scriptures in verbal belief or practice.
